தமிழ்நாட்டில் நாளை (ஏப்ரல் 14) தமிழ் புத்தாண்டு (புது வருடம்) உற்சாகமாக கொண்டாடப்பட உள்ளது. இந்நாள் சித்திரை திருநாள் என்றும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. தமிழர்கள் சூரிய நாட்காட்டியைப் பின்பற்றுவதால், அனைத்து கணக்கீடுகளுக்கும் சூரியனின் இயக்கத்தை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டு பின்பற்றப்படுகிறது. அந்த வகையில் நாளை புத்தாண்டு தினம் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.
